Pitch It! is a business pitching competition where students will have the opportunity to share their business ideas with professionals for the chance to win $1000. The competition will take place throughout the month of January, and will include a workshop, a preliminary round and the finals. The top 5 teams will compete in the final round on January 27th during the Entrepreneurial Way Conference (EWC) in front of a live audience. Each presentation will consisit of a short elevator pitch (think Shark Tank or Dragons Den). All University of Winnipeg students are eligible to enter.

Important Mandatory Dates

  • Business Pitch Workshop:  January 8th, 12:20-1:30

  • Preliminary Round: January 19th

  • Final Presentations at EWC: January 27th

Pitch Outline

  • Each pitch presentation will be allowed a maximum of 2 minutes to present. 

  • Only 2 team members will present. 

  • Each presentation should consist of the following: 

    • The problem 

    • Your solution

    • How is your idea unique?

    • How is your idea profitable?

    • The ask (should be related to the $1000 grand prize)

  • Each team will be required to submit one powerpoint slide with their business name and logo (no other slides will be allowed).  
  • Scoring criteria will be sent out to each team by January 1st, 2018. 


  • Must be a current student at the University of Winnipeg during the Fall 2017 and Winter 2018 semesters.

  • The business pitch must be only an idea, not an actual business.

  • Students can sign up in teams up to five, but only two presenters will be permitted to present during the preliminary and final rounds (all team members can attend the workshop).

  • Presenters must be available for the workshop, preliminary round and the final presentation.

  • All team members must behave with a high level of professionalism and respect when competing.

  • All presenters should be dressed business professionally for the presentations.
