Executive

Kyle Hemenway, President
president@uwbasa.ca

Degree: Business Administration (4-yr)
Major(s)/Minor: Accounting, Marketing
Area of Interest: Finance, Business Strategy
Why BASA:I decided to run for the President of BASA, because I wanted the opportunity to help promote the business degree at the U of W. I feel that with having the right connections within the business community, the U of W's business faculty has the potential of producing some of the top business leaders in Manitoba.

Ian Weedmark, Vice President
vice president@uwbasa.ca

Degree: Bachelor of Business Administration
Major(s)/Minor: Business Administration
Area of Interest: HR and Marketing
Why BASA: Why BASA? In all honesty BASA chose me. I found myself lost in degree planning and general direction of the business degree at the university. A member of BASA introduced me to the organization and got me on track with my university career. Goals for the organization are ultimately to raise the quality of education of the business students in the faculty, but much more goals are realized within the organization. A discipline of the business world is developed quickly and networking opportunities allow a university degree to become even more valuable than anyone realizes. The challenge and opportunities speaks volumes to itself and is why I am proud to be a part of the organization.

Scott Stockwell, Treasurer
treasurer@uwbasa.ca

Degree: Bachelor of Business Administration
Major(s)/Minor: Business Administration
Area of Interest: Accounting and Finance
Why BASA: I chose BASA because of the benefits that were provided to me in previous years. When given the opportunity to serve as Treasurer of BASA, there was no decision to make. It was the natural way to give back to the Business Administration student body.

Matthew Friesen, Officer of Corporate Relations
corporate.relations@uwbasa.ca

Degree: Business and Administration (4-year BBA)
Major(s)/Minor: Marketing
Area of Interest: Sales, Marketing, Public Relations, Entrepreneurship and/or Management
Why BASA: I spent my whole first year strictly involved in my studies and did not take part in organizations such as BASA. I found myself with something missing from my University experience in the past summer. So, I looked to BASA this year to provide a filler for the gap and they did just that. Therefore, taking the opportunity to represent this organization in the business community was an obvious choice for me. I just want to help create a business environment that is more than just numbers, books, and statistics but has some real substance to it!

Kate Donetz, Officer of Marketing
marketing@uwbasa.ca

Degree: Bachelor of Business Administration
Area of Interest: Business Administration / Economics
Why BASA: BASA gives the opportunity for students to come together and interact with the local business community to gain the knowledge to prepare for their future.

Vidhur Sharma, Officer of Communications
communications@uwbasa.ca

Degree: Bachelor of Business Administration(4-yr)
Major/Minor: Business Administration/Economics
Area of Interest: Financial markets
Why BASA: As an International student, I thought BASA provided me great opportunity to get involved and get to know more students. It has been very real and a learning experience!

Laura Coffell, Officer of Events
events@uwbasa.ca

Degree: Bachelor of Administrative Studies (4year), Bachelor of Arts - Rhetoric and Communications (3 year)
Major(s)/Minor: Marketing/ Communications
Area of Interest: Marketing/ Sales, Event Planning, Management
Why BASA: Being a member of BASA is a great opportunity to get involved with the University and gain valuable business skills. I hope, as a member of the executive team, to be able to bring new ideas to the table and learn how to run events smoothly and successfully. I believe that my organizational skills, as well as my interest in the event planning aspect of the organization will help to make this year with BASA a successful one.

Kelly Opitz, Officer of Operations
operations@uwbasa.ca

Degree: Bachelor of Business Administration (4-yr)
Major(s)/Minor: Business Administration/Film
Area of Interest: Human Resources, Public Relations, and General Management
Why BASA: Being a BASA executive is a wonderful opportunity to gain aspects of the working world. I chose BASA because of their strong dedication and will to create an environment for all students, which reflect how current Businesses operate.

Steven Hobson, Officer of Information Technology (IT Officer)
itofficer@uwbasa.ca

Degree: Bachelor of Business Administration (4-yr)
Major(s)/Minor: Human Resource Management
Area of Interest:High Tech Sector Management, Organizational Structure, Executive Recruitment, B2B Sales, Personality Testing in HR Practices
Why BASA: I took this great opportunity to meet others with similar interests, and be part of and contribute to this valuable association for business students. Through my time with BASA, I have extended my learning outside the classroom and I have been able to apply theory to real-life management and effectively develop my transferable skills quantum leaps over my business education alone.
